PMOI Skype Session: Waajeed in Chile
Waajeed spoke to us a few weeks ago about his forthcoming project "Half-Breed", showed us around the studio in Chile, played a snippet of a track he'd just finished working on, talked about his thoughts on bloggers, why he didn't release Tron on Ubiquity, the difficulty of touring PPP, the 9 projects he's working on, and his plans to return to London. You can listen to a snippet of the track in the video below, it's titled "Nothin Don't".
Waajeed - Nothin Don't Snippet [www.putmeonit.com] by ameliaideh
Video: Bilal "Tainted Love"
What I would give to be a fly on the wall for a month with the Plug Research/ Art Don't Sleep crew. Though this is a cover of the 60s original [recorded by Gloria Jones rather than the 80s Soft Cell version], it isn't quite as up beat as the 60s version and seems to have retained some of the menace more recognizable in the 80s hit. I would like an MP3 of this very much - just putting it out in to the universe.
Video: The Black Keys "Tighten Up" [Live on Jools Holland]
Very impressive live whistling in tune here. Unless you've already bought tickets this is about as live as you'll be able to see the Black Keys since their entire UK tour in November has sold out.
Video: Space Invadas "Done It Again"
For some reason I still haven't bought the Space Invadas album Soul:Fi that came out this Spring. Probably because I haven't heard anything from it that has blown me away with it's subtlety like some of Spacek's previous work. I still love his voice though and this is nice if slightly awkward.
MP3 + Video: Lykke Li 'Get Some'
Damn Lykke, you're someone's prostitute? I love this, and am very grateful there's no slutty video to accompany it.

MP3: Eric Lau Free Track - "Home Run"

Unsurprisingly the first vinyl press of Eric Lau's new project "Making Sound" has almost sold out, you can grab the last remaining few from hhv.de, FatBeats.com and Jazzy Sport. As a thank you for the support for the record he has just dropped a free track, enjoy!
The Revivalist
The Revivalist from Serious Business on Vimeo.
It's a small world, and I'm in NY at the moment staying with the wonderful people who are starting a brand new online home for jazz, launching on Okayplayer in 5 days called "The Revivalist". I'll be interviewing them about it later on this week but in the meantime, you can check out the trailer above and the first track from their project the Freedom Suite, also set for release on the 26th October, by Nnenna Freelon featuring The Beast, Brandford Marsalis, Phonte, and Questlove, hosted by 9th Wonder.

Video: Lissie "Everywhere I Go"
LISSIE - EVERYWHERE I GO from MVOD on Vimeo.
I totally missed this gorgeous video by Lissie, whose album Catching a Tiger is one of my favourites of 2010 so far (though I actually prefer the live iTunes session). So down to earth yet beautiful.

Ghostpoet is one of my favourite artists in the UK at the moment, loving this video, it's great what you can do with a little creativity.

Download: Olivier Daysoul "Mr Saint Louis" EP Prod. By Oddisee

Before you do anything else - hit download quickly! Only the first 1000 downloads of this EP will be free, after that it will change to a pay what you want deal. I'm so excited about this project, it is really hard to create an authentic but modern soul sound and I love every song on the Mr Saint Louis EP, it's beautifully written and produced, and Olivier's voice and songwriting is finally given a real chance to shine. Not only does the package include the four full tracks but a remix from Von Pea of Tanya Morgan, all of the instrumentals, and the acappellas with their BPMs (expect hundreds of remixes to follow).
There will be videos coming soon to accompany it but for now - enjoy.

Video: Rye Rye ft M.I.A. - Sunshine
I wasn't sold on this when I first heard it earlier this week but I've had it stuck in my head ever since so now you can too if you don't already (ha!). It's great that young, fresh, talented female MCs seem to be coming through at the moment alongside the Minaj's, and Rye Rye is undeniably very naturally cute and entertaining with it.

Video: Olivier Daysoul "Mr Saint Louis" Mini Doc
Olivier Daysoul and Oddisee shot this mini documentary over the summer in Oxford where Olivier is based to give a little insight in to his background. He talks about his upbringing, musical influences and feelings about the project and there's also a little footage of him in his home studio.

PMOI Skype Session: Hezekiah at Home in Philadephia
Today I'm dropping the second in our Skype Session series, this time with Hezekiah at his home in Philly. He spoke about writing for Bilal, producing Jaguar Wright & Bahamadia, shared some advice for rappers on songwriting, his (negative) experience at Rawkus, making and misplacing his home porn tapes(!), and his new album "Conscious Porn" which comes out today - he also spit a verse for us and played us some tracks from it.
In the later half Hez plays the single "Hold It Now" which is just crazy so I had to post it for you as a stream below. The album (released today) is easily in my top 5 hip hop albums of 2010 so far, it just makes me want to dance, sing along, screw my face up, sit and think - I would seriously recommend it [iTunes link].
Video: James Blake "Limit To Your Love" [Feist Cover]
As promised last week, the video of James Blake's lovely Feist cover. Big things ahead for that young man, oof.
Download: 2000Black "Forgot The Steel Pans"

An unreleased track from 2007 by Mr GoodGood. I believe if you want to say thank you it's Marks & Spencers Percy Piglets (important: not the pigs, the piglets).

PMOI Exclusive: Olivier Daysoul Interview & New Single Prod. by Oddisee
I'm both excited and a bit nervous about this new feature - I've been interviewing artists on Skype over the past month in various places all over the world, on tour, in their bedrooms, studios etc wheedling exclusive performances, secrets and stories out of them.
First in the series is Olivier Daysoul, who I caught up with a little while back whilst he was backstage in Tokyo supporting Hudson Mohawke on tour. He sang an acappella version of his new single Labor, from his new EP Mr Saint Louis produced by Oddisee coming out this Friday. I'm very excited to say you can download Labor now below (another PMOI exclusive), and we'll be dropping a mini doc and the full EP first here this week as well. Look out for interviews with Hezkiah and Waajeed next!
Doctors Orders "Suite For Ma Dukes" Charity Screenings
You may remember back in June we screened Suite for Ma Dukes (part of the Timeless series) and Secondhand Sureshots at the C.A.M.P. - it was an amazing evening and lots of people have asked since if there would be another screening of Suite for Ma Dukes - well, finally there are more!
The Doctors Orders will be showing this beautiful tribute concert to J Dilla by Miguel Atwood Ferguson, a 60 piece orchestra and some seriously special guests at 3pm 5pm & 7pm Sunday 7th November 2010 @ Westbourne Studios. It's £7 entry or £15 with the DVD/CD and all profits go to Ma Dukes and the Dilla Foundation, you can buy your tickets here.
"Untitled/ Fantastic"
Following that on there will be launch parties featuring J-Dilla collaborators Elzhi, Phat Kat & DJ Dez, on Friday 19th November @ Plan B, and Saturday 20th November @ Jam, Brighton
For some photos from the screening (grown men cried!), and a 10 track promo download featuring some of the music from Suite for Ma Dukes & Secondhand Sureshots click here
Download: Pinboard Blog Presents "Feed Your Ears Vol. 1"

I love the crew over at Pinboard, they're one of my favourite blogs around and today they've dropped their first EP. It features "alternative soul" artists Oliver DaySoul, Jimetta Rose, Peter Hadar, DivaGeek (Vula & Ben Jones), Fatima x Alex Nut, Brittany Bosco & Reggie B. As you know I'm always honest on here, even when talking about my friends, and I have to say that some of the songwriting isn't my cup of tea, but I'm sure loads of people will feel otherwise and there's definitely a lot of talent on here. Check it out and download it below.

RIP Solomon Burke
Solomon Burke is believed to have died from a heart attack on a flight from LA to Amsterdam this morning, aged 70. He leaves behind 21 children, 90 grandchildren, and some beautiful soul music. Best known for classics like Cry to Me and Everybody Needs Somebody to Love, I thought the performance above of Don't Give Up On Me from his Grammy winning album of the same name from 2003 was beautiful. May he rest in peace.
Download: Pete Philly "Open Loops" Project

Adam Rock sent me a link to Pete Philly's new website because of the "Open Loops" project he's working on at the moment. Over the next 14 weeks he'll be releasing a song every Monday, but the website is just so impressive I would suggest taking a look even if you're not that in to the music! I have to say I'm not bowled over by the first track Encore Une Fois, but I will be checking back over the 14 weeks if only because of the first 1 min 12 seconds of this...
MP3 + Video: Kings of Leon "Use Somebody" [Safia's Way]
Still catching up on posting my favourite things from this week and this, discovered at Soul UK, is definitely one of them. Safia is Muhsinah's middle name which it seems she'll be using to put out some new music, slightly confusingly, but I doubt it will stop anyone from finding it when it sounds this lovely.
Head over to vivasafia.com to download this song for free.
Video: Is Tropical Roundhouse BlackBox Session
A thermal image live stream? I have such a soft spot for the beautiful Roundhouse Theatre in London (I used to work there), and the creative teams there are just brilliant. This video was directed by Will Hanke & Jamie Roberts and broadcast live on October 5th attracting over 20,000 viewers. You can see another video by Will using different techniques featuring the stunning Tanya Auclair and Yult here.
Find out more about the Roundhouse Black Box sessions here.

Trailer: "Influencers"
INFLUENCERS TRAILER from R+I creative on Vimeo.
This made me exceptionally uncomfortable. The focus of this film seems to be on this idea of these "influencers" and "creatives" and "how trends & creativity become contagious today in music and fashion", with very little focus on the worth, substance or longevity of this influence. I love Jay Z's music in a club but I can't think of a single profound or lasting influence he has had on my life, unless you count taking up hard drive space.
The problem I have with this post-Gladwell/Godin talk (much as I like both of those authors), is that the focus of their works seems to have been conveniently shifted by people with big egos wanting to lead tribes, and be seen as the early adoptors or "influencers" who don't seem to have thought about where they actually want to lead people. Films like this, so called "connoiseur" blogs where the contributors post endless photo shoots of themselves trying to look cool, events where the only real point is to make it in to the photos - preferably with someone well known, etc etc seem like [fairly effective] propaganda to me.
I think what those people are scared to say is that the truth is that we can, should be, and are all "influencers". We have an amazing opportunity to inspire each other, share knowledge, create, collaborate, and positively influence the people around us with ease and speed every day, especially through technology. We might not make lots of money out of it or become famous, but we might make someone's day, enlighten or inspire them.

Stream: James Blake cover of Feist "Limit To Your Love"
Usually the idea of someone covering Feist would just make me angry, but James Blake has done rather a lovely job of it. Apparently there's a video coming out next week for this too!
Thanks to Pitchfork & Abeano

MP3 + Video: Azealia Banks “L8R”
Just found this video over at Fader and it made my evening. I put L8R up as a download on We Love Vol 23 pt1 but I'm going to re-upload it here in the hope that someone, somewhere will play this in a club (I do need to find a CDQ version though). I love this woman, even though I couldn't actually repeat her lyrics without shocking myself.
Download: L8R [Mediafire]
MP3/ Stream: New Kidkanevil Heat
Kid K has been on fire this week - I demanded to know what gummy bears he's been eating but it seems its just the regular ones. I'm very very excited about the new Stateless album coming out soon (first single in November I believe). If you missed the download limit on the Jazmine Sullivan reflip you can grab it here.
Stream: Keziah Jones "Lagos vs New York" Gilles Peterson Rmx
I just found a remix by Gilles Peterson of Keziah Jones's Lagos vs New York at the wonderful Afripop and I'm really feeling it so thought I'd post a stream.
You can check out the original below by Olufemi Sanyaolu, I mean Keziah (which kind name be Jones? I beg.)

Interview [Fader]: Homeboy Sandman
Love this dude so much, so extreme and passionate with a heart of gold and talent to match.
Sandman lyric of the day "stop saving up bread - go save brethren, stop chasin the papes - just stay present, stop making complaints - go make legend ".
Video: Tame Impala "Lucidity"
Plenty of artists talk about being from outer space etc but Tame Impala actually made a video there. Yeah.
Tame Impala - Lucidity from Modular People on Vimeo.
Video: Hezekiah feat. Eleon "If One Falls"
You have I Predict A Riot, right? No, not the bloody Kaiser Chiefs foo! Hez has just made a video in Brazil for one of my favourite tracks from his great album from '07, as part of the lead up to his new album Conscious Porn set for release on 12th October (have I said it's brilliant? I'll say it again just in case). He may not have a big budget but he definitely has talent.
Video: Bosco "In The Woods"
Bosco: In The Woods from Branden Collins on Vimeo.
Ah, Brittany and Branden playing in the woods. For someone who used the internet to such great effect launching herself in to our collective consciousness, Brittany is showing remarkable patience and restraint in taking time to create her next project and I love that. Good things come to those who wait.
Video: Jack White's Triple Decker Record
I know approximately nothing about the process of making vinyl but felt slightly queasy as Jack cracked it open. Perhaps not one for the purists but interesting all the same.
Video: Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings "If You Call"
Uh oh, what's going to happen in part two now Sharon's got a knife?! Such a pleasure to come home from a few days away to something as beautiful as this, I love their album I Learned The Hard Way and they'll be performing at the Roundhouse on Nov 3rd.
